Capt Amarinder Singh's Son Summoned For Alleged Forex Violations

Former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh's son Raninder Singh has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate for alleged foreign exchange violations, which Mr Singh said was "political witch-hunt" by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

Mr Singh said Mr Jaitley was taking revenge for the defeat in 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

"Every time he (Arun Jaitley) recalls his defeat, he orders one of his agencies like the Income Tax department or the Enforcement Directorate to issue summons against one or the other of my family members," Mr Singh said, adding, "Political battles are better fought in political battlegrounds and not by subterfuge to avenge a political defeat".

Raninder Singh has been summoned in connection with ED's probe against him for alleged forex contraventions and holding of untaxed foreign assets, which the latter had denied.

"We will come clean no matter to what extent they go, but it actually reveals a petty mindset of a petty man who can stoop too low to resort to such petty things," the former chief minister said.

He said the complaints will "fall flat" in court and will be rejected by Punjabis in next year's elections.

In March, a Ludhiana court had issued summons to Mr Singh's son following a complaint by the Income Tax Department regarding his foreign assets.

Mr Singh, who is also the chief of the state Congress, had said the allegations of corruption against his family were an "act of vendetta", meant to malign him ahead of next year's Assembly elections.

The Aam Aadmi Party in March said the IT department had alleged that Raninder Singh made false statements twice under oath - denying that he had f oreign assets and had association with any foreign entity.
